Welcome to the Rural Washington Jails Project!

The Rural Washington Jails Project looks at experiences with jails and justice in the Eastern and Central parts of rural Washington State. Through in-depth interviews with adults who have been involved in the rural jail system, the study explores their unique challenges and experiences. The project aims to help inform understandings of how and why individuals get involved in the justice system. We bring rural-focused policy solutions to the attention of national, state, and local policymakers.

We are currently finished interviewing but invite you to explore the resources our team has collected to help you navigate the post-arrest experience in rural Washington, particularly in our focus counties of Asotin, Ferry, Grant, Kittitas, Okanogan, and Whitman.
